Today, more than ever before, patients with colon and rectal disorders are offered renewed hope and the opportunity to lead full and productive lives thanks to advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities for these painful and potentially life-threatening diseases.

At NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, our colorectal surgeons are nationally and internationally recognized for their pioneering efforts and extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery and state-of-the-art laparoscopic technologies for colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease, and other inflammatory bowel diseases.

Currently, we are performing more than 80 percent of major intestinal surgeries using laparoscopic methods. By comparison, the average percentage of patients having laparoscopic surgery for colon problems throughout the United States is currently about 10 percent. In the past decade, our collective expertise and experience with these procedures exceeds many thousands, and we continue to perform hundreds of minimally invasive and innovative colorectal surgeries each year.

Our colon and rectal surgical practice is located in the Stich Building at East 70th Street and York Avenue, which is home to all of Weill Cornell's digestive diseases programs, including the Jay Monahan Center for Gastrointestinal Health and the Jill Roberts Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center. This facility provides a friendly and private office environment where multiple specialists bring a singular focus to gastrointestinal problems. Here patients can find medical and surgical consultations, genetic counseling, and dietary management, as well as undergo diagnostic testing and endoscopic procedures.

Our dedication to improving the lives of patients with colon and rectal disorders extends to a robust research program, where we are developing new types of minimally invasive surgery, improving post-operative recovery, and maintaining our commitment to excellence in patient care.
